If you like books with action, SHTF conditions, big characters and consistent storylines through multiple sagas, then this series is for you. Sure, the Mad Mick and his exploits are bigger than life, but that is the whole idea behind fictional stories. Franklin Horton weaves a tale around the Mad Mick and his family and friends seamlessly from one book to another. This series is not for those squeamish about violence or the (rare) use of foul language. I actually thought the ‘word bombs’ were more restrained in the book than in most college campuses (or political speeches) in real life. As much as I enjoy the author’s entertaining story, I have to admit they have the EXACT correct narrator in Kevin Pierce. He is perfect for this genre, with great tone, inflection and continuity. I am sure it is difficult to consistently nail the required affectations of different male and female speakers, especially when there are various local dialects and national accents involved. I think he did a great job affecting the Irish tones for Conner and Barb, at least for me, a non-Irish listener. Mr. Pierce is now my favorite narrator.
