It’s not a bad story, pretty enjoyable in fact- proven that I’m finishing the 3rd book currently, but I’m not sure if I care to continue (I had started the series because I was overflowing with credits).
It’s mostly “in-game” stat regurgitation and faux-genius-hero “thank god I did this thing that I did way beforehand but never mentioned it to the reader until this moment” immediate retconning. If told by a different author I think this would be a truly enjoyable adventure as it is imaginative and gets so close to entertaining thought experiments. However the story is often tedious with excessive details about how the world around the characters works.
I feel that there is a lot to like in the story in the first three books, with equal amounts of skipability. I’d powered through them while doing tedious and repetitive house work, which probably helped in the consumption. I’m truly torn on if I’ll dive further into the series.
