The tone gets a lot darker in an almost cringy way. It felt unnecessary, and took away from the story.
I really did not enjoy the goblin NPC romance either. Mostly because the story makes it clear that NPCs are just VIs forced to act against their will.. and she’s a goblin. But the MC doesn’t care about any of that because he’s too much of a horn dog..
That was just weird.
