I didn’t think it was possible to top the intensity of Book 5, but The Eye of the Bedlam Bride is a masterclass in escalating stakes. Matt Dinniman has created a universe so deep, so funny, and so heartbreaking that I’m officially ruined for any other LitRPG.

The complexity of the “Eighth Floor” is staggering. Dinniman manages to juggle dozens of factions, celestial politics, and the increasingly unhinged AI without ever losing the heart of the story: Carl and Donut. The way the “Lore” of previous crawls starts to bleed into the current game is brilliant. And let’s talk about that humor—Chapter 48 (The Performance) is quite literally the funniest thing I have ever heard in an audiobook. I had to pull my car over because I was laughing too hard to see the road.
The Performance (Jeff Hays):
At this point, Jeff Hays isn’t just a narrator; he’s a wizard. The sheer number of voices he maintains—each with their own distinct personality, accent, and emotional weight—is a feat of vocal athletics.
