This was a much more engaging story than I was expecting from the summary. This is my first time reading anything by either author, and although I’ve read a few different LitRPG series it’s not like I’m an expert there either. To be honest there isn’t anything conceptually new here but all of the characters are fun and the story moves along steadily throughout, with enough twists and developments to keep me engaged the entire time. I found myself listening to this even when I could have been doing other things which is rare for me.

I will say that there are some awkward parts story wise with regards to the burgeoning romantic relationship in this novel, but it’s nothing that will detract from your enjoyment of the story, and it does eventually add an interesting perspective on our main characters.

Soundbooth knocks it out of the park as usual as far as performance is concerned. As far as the point off, there were a few times when the audio wasn’t balanced properly, especially when the dialogue switched between male and female voices, and one voice was noticeably louder/quieter than the other. Really I wish I could give half a star off as it’s noticeable every time it happens but it’s not much of a speedbump at all in terms of my enjoyment of the production overall.

If you like the way the summary sounds I think you’ll enjoy this book. I’m looking forward to reading the next one – but I need to decide if I’m going to read it now or wait for (hopefully) a second production with this same cast.
