If one were to judge by the title, one might expect this to be a somewhat lighthearted romp of a story, but instead it was a masterwork on sociology and psychology. The characters were actually too well written because, given the circumstances the MC finds herself in, a little comic relief might have been nice. The book is well written and the plot was well thought out, but unfortunately it was also a very unfun, uninteresting story. We spend most of the book with the MC stuck between two groups of people that hate one another and each side thinks the other are merciless animals, and in a sense, they are both right about that. Of course, very few people are actually pure evil, so we see the good sides of each group as the MC spends time with them. It sounds all nice and stuff when you say it like that, but in reality it’s just a slog with no real payoff.

With that said, I’m still cautiously optimistic of future books. Like I said, the author is quite skilled and has tons of potential. I just hope they remember to put some things in the next book that are actually fun and enjoyable for the reader. I really don’t want to feel like I just read a social studies text book next time.
