I added Killer Instinct to my library a while ago and finally gave it a listen — and I’m so glad I did! Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations going in. I’ve read a lot of thrillers (Kay Scarpetta, Women’s Murder Club, etc.) and have been searching for a series with a lesbian main character that focuses on the story — not just the sex.
This book hit the mark. The plot is engaging, the writing is solid, and the main character is refreshingly real — flawed, human, and relatable. Barbara Winkes delivers exactly what I’ve been craving: a gripping story where the character’s identity is part of who she is, not the whole plot.
If you’re looking for a smart, well-paced thriller with depth and representation, give this one a shot. I’ll definitely be looking for more from this author!
