Audio review: voice acting was great! Like to an extent I’d believe that there were multiple voice actors used. It was very impressive. The only thing is i wasn’t a big fan of the voice choice for the main guy, Carl. It sounded like Kronk from the Emperors New Groove was reading to me. It took about the whole book for me to get used to it. But alas.

The story itself was super fun!!! It felt a lot like an adult version of Percy Jackson. Not the mythology stuff tho, more in the sense that we had sarcastic funny narration and a guy trying to survive a bunch of life or death situations but they were all super bizarre. It wasn’t super heavy and requiring of a lot of big thinking, just a lighthearted, fun, wild and zany adventure. I don’t normally like to
Compare books in terms of other books but I will here. It felt like a mix of Percy Jackson and hunter x hunter, with a bit of hunger games thrown in. The hunger games comparison comes from the setting and plot: people unwillingly forced to fight for their lives for entertainment, televised and with interviews and PR reps and stuff trying to help make you more favorable to fans so you get gifts and stuff from them. The Percy Jackson/ hunterxhunter comparison just comes from writing style and actual content: weird and funny, but life threatening adventures that just come one after another.
I didn’t realize this was such a long series until about 3/4 through , but I’m not upset at all! It’s kind of refreshing! I feel like I’m reading a book like the kind I used to when I was a kid. No romance or heavy emotional stuff, just fun, wild, crazy adventures, but upgraded for adults. I’ll be getting the next one immediately!
