Ok ok! Nobody does a slow burn like K. A. Tucker! Well, the only person who comes close is Cora Riley. These two ladies can rock a slow burn like nobody’s business. And I personally am NOT into slow burns, I actually generate really detest them. I get bored because a lot of them feel like not only are they slow burn, but they’re also slow action and every other aspect as well. I have a very very short attention span and if I get out of the book, it’s hard to get back into it so I have to read something action packed so to speak.
At first, I could not stand Gabriel. I actually had to go in here and see when this book was written to see if it was written after the one with Abigail in it. That one was borderline Dormady at times and I started to get that feeling from our H Mercy in this book. Thankfully, that notion went right out the window about halfway through the book. She got her Backbone all right, she was determined not to be walked over and she didn’t allow Gabriel to do so. That intrigued him to no end.
Ada Sinclair & Alex Kydd rocked the narration as always! These are two of my favorite narrators however, this is my first time hearing Alex in a more serious mafia style role. I love him and all of my hockey romances. He spot on for those guys so it took me a minute to get out of that mindset and into this slightly darker world for him, but of course I loved it! Then there’s Ada she always brings her a game and you’re never left wanting or bored she keeps your attention with the amount of emotion she flex and all of our characters.
All in all, this was a really good first book and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. If Mercy learned some things, if Dad learned some things? It’s just endless, the tension is high! I’m going in right now to the next book because I just cannot sit here wondering how things are gonna turn out.
