I have read the entire Magiford set, and the Magic on Main Street series pales in comparison to the others in this set. Most of Shea’s books are fairly predictable at times, but The Order of Blood and Ruin takes the cake. Sometimes it is overly predictable, and others it’s not predictable but the logic just doesn’t make sense. A third of the book should have been edited down to a fraction of the words, and it would have been nice if certain parts had been flushed out more. It was like some of the plot was hurried along while the romance was over explained. Overall it needed to be reworked a couple times before being published; it reminded me of when an author starts getting more control and the editor doesn’t do as much, while also making me think the goal was to publish the book quickly so the extra effort that would polish the book wasn’t applied.
