The last Dungeon Crawler Carl book is like the final boss fight you didn’t know you needed, but secretly prayed wouldn’t end. Matt Dinniman somehow wrapped up a series built on exploding chickens, diva cats, and one extremely stubborn guy in underpants—and still managed to make it emotional. That’s some wizard-level writing.

Carl’s still Carl: sarcastic, stubborn, and making “bad decisions” look like a professional sport. Donut continues to be the world’s most terrifying blend of princess, general, and Yelp reviewer, and yes, she gets some of the best lines in the whole series. The action is fast, the jokes land, and just when you’re laughing, Dinniman sucker-punches you with feels. Rude.

By the end, you’re satisfied, heartbroken, and a little mad that it’s over—kind of like finishing a pizza and realizing you could’ve eaten another one. This book doesn’t just stick the landing; it stomps on it in steel-toed boots, throws up jazz hands, and dares you not to cheer.

If you loved the ride so far, the finale delivers everything you hoped for: chaos, comedy, carnage, and closure. And yes, you’ll probably still be quoting Donut long after you close the book.
