This is one of those books that is only book length because it is overfilled with nebulous details and contains only occasional bits of action. I tried to listen, but just grew weary waiting for something of interest to happen.
Amazing character grown for a stand alone book. Leaves you on your feet with the fate of certain characters. Wish they would have killed and over threw the government or would have liked that to have been expanded on more. And to end with robin being hunted by a god makes me want more, but..
a bit like The Road (McCarthy) except far more uplifting; things actually sometimes go right and it’s not quite so desolate and hopeless, and even though it shows some of the worst sides of humanity it also shows the good in people too. it’s pretty wholesome: the father-son relationship, the way Ben and Joel take..
Very little plot actually happens, there’s very little effort explaining the magic system or world-building, and in general it’s really hard to like any of the characters.

Have been listening to the entire series over the last month at work and it has kept me interested the entire time! Love the fact that the original cast are still here, many stories like this are too dark in my mind. Good mix of suspense, comedy and action. My favorite part of this book..
I really like the whole joke of the story. The idea of people getting pre-determined life quests is a little bleak, but the whole thing of bread loaves being calamatously unobtainable is really funny. I made it through book 1. Story was ok, then it fell into the same old gangs controlling everything, raping, pillaging and slavery. I’m sorry, but if people cannot survive after 96% of the population have died (quickly) and you still have access to all of your resources, you were not meant to make it…
Interesting magic system, engaging characters and a deep sense of humanity. Refreshing lack of tired tropes.
It was a good story. I dont get the hype. So many people had this on their best reads list. Was well written. The focuses went on and on and was a bit boring. Once it started to ramp up it just went down after that instead of building upon it.

by the title I was like…ugh…but I promised to review so here goes….I guess I should know better than to judge a book by it’s cover, everything about it was excellent and enjoyable. I laughed, I was sad, I couldn’t wait to find out what was going on next!
