The story was very much a slow burn, but you got into understanding the characters in the culture it really took off. I don’t want to spoil anything going forward, but if you’re unsure about listening… Just make it through the first 1/3 and it’ll be worth it in the end.

I enjoyed this story. It definitely is a bit of a slow start, but you come to care for the characters throughout the book. The main issue I had was the ending. It felt like the last couple hours was more like an epilogue then a satisfying ending.

The first half was interesting world building, compelling conflict, and great fantasy action. The second half had all the promise in the world of better conflicts, emotional turmoil, and none of it happened. I’m bummed.

The characters were great, the story was awesome, and it was captivating and heartwarming. The only thing holding this book back was the narrator. He does a good job, but I would have preferred someone more native to Japan.. I think they would have handled the culture and Japanese words better.

Overall disappointed with a lot of dead space and killing off my favorite character halfway through the book. Didn’t care for much after that point.

This story is believable, good characters, lots of excitement and a good storyline. I liked it! Sometimes I can get bored with a series, but I was sorry to see it end.
