I tried to get into this story but it was just boring. Listened to about an hour and just didn’t care about any of the characters and they weren’t really doing much. Think of the meme with the guy poking the book with a stick saying “do something.” That’s where I was at. Regret spending..

The story was very much a slow burn, but you got into understanding the characters in the culture it really took off. I don’t want to spoil anything going forward, but if you’re unsure about listening… Just make it through the first 1/3 and it’ll be worth it in the end.

The characters were great, the story was awesome, and it was captivating and heartwarming. The only thing holding this book back was the narrator. He does a good job, but I would have preferred someone more native to Japan.. I think they would have handled the culture and Japanese words better.
