I have enjoyed other Grace Hamilton stories and was excited to start this series. This is book 1. I really enjoy a good dystopian story. An EMP wiped out electronics and electrical utility is a very real possibility. I could envision how it would impact my community. I struggled to keep some of the characters..
My main gripe is that the narrator reads too slow. Once I bumped the speed up to 1.2x, it was fine.

there’s a lot of excess detail that doesn’t affect the story in a meaningful way. character development is excruciating. The narrator also did not brush up on Japanese pronunciation so a good portion is spoken incorrectly.
