another great book from grace Hamilton. can’t wait to hear the next in the series and see how the rest comes together. highly recommend!!!
Having lived in the area where the story took place, I was expecting a good volcano story. I was disappointed in this book, because it went off the rails, and became less of a story about the volcano and an eruption aftermath and more of a story about human trafficking. If I wanted a book..
Good story that easily held my interedt. There is a lot of action drama and suspense. The author does a good job of delving deep into these characters, so I become to care about them. Of course, there are more than a few that I become suspicious of. The only thing I really don’t care..
I really enjoyed this story! The human conditions of power, greed, and ego, are well portrayed in this. I could actually see this story continuing in other areas of the world.
I’ll just give an example of Sai dumb ass. So he needs to cross a like 12 feet deep spike pit. instead of creating a landing spot with bodies he uses them to make a ramp down. ok whatever. he slips and impaled his left hand taking him down to 70% health and bleeding. he..
This book is an interesting mixture of science fiction and fantasy in a mostly Asian inspired setting, with excellent fight scenes, compelling elemental magic and an interesting story but with strange pacing and unexpected and understated plot developments, especially in its final third.
The pacing for this was different from most fantasy stories but it’s such a deeply emotional and powerful story that the pace felt necessary in retrospect. Brilliant
