Hultberg writes an interesting story of magic and fantasy that shows a possible life after death and how the struggle never truly ends. Tells does a decent job narrating the story but I found some of the reading to be clunky with emphasis on odd syllables and the voices not always remaining consistent.

I really enjoyed this story overall as it was a nice western rendition of chinese based stories. The character is pretty relatable but I did feel he needed more depth into the fact he lost his daughter and wife. The fights were well told to the point I could really visualize them. I think it is an interesting world. Bits and pieces that seem really cool, although it’s not really forming a cohesive whole for me. I think our protagonist is written weakly. I would expect a cop to be a little more cautious, especially this one when his lack of it literally just got him killed..

I enjoyed this story. I think the storyline is unique and interesting. There wasn’t something specific that just GRABBED me and made me not want to put it down, instead it was an all around enjoyable listen.
