This is like listening to a very bad version of a brilliant Vera novel. Its even set in Cumbria. So many cliches I lost count.
Whilst I can see that this may be a good detective series, I’m afraid I won’t be listening to another one as I found the narration style quite irritating. I found the different accents of the characters to be quite weak. There was one character in the book who was supposed to have a Glaswegian..
While a mystery needs a few good red herrings, this one seemed to have nothing but misdirect. I found most characters totally unlikeable and none very interesting. The ending seemed to come out of nowhere, but that may be because I lost interest halfway through the book.
I liked it all. Another NC Lewis great story. Love the recurring characters; makes me feel like we know each other.
Nicely done mystery written by a writer that turns out more books than Patterson and is so hidden there is nothing known about him/her. They are turning out the mystery novels like a Ford assembly line. Characters are fairly well developed and plot is planned out without many hanging strings. It’s just something about it..
This could’ve been a great story at least for its framework, but the writer misses the opportunity by not knowing whether he should write historical fiction or erotic softcore. The reader rescues some points by her expressive narration
