Overall, I do think this is an excellent series, so far, and I highly recommend it to other fans of the space combat and diplomacy flavors of sci-fi. With that said, I would like to vent some frustration about a pet peeve I developed while listening to this book and the prior two books in..
this book was so bad I had to go back and re-listen multiple times just to figure out what I missed. won’t be getting any other books in the series.
If this book were made into a movie, it would be MST3000’s movie of the year before it was even released.

The ratio of monster mayhem to plot, characters, and tempo is completely off. As much as I love other Robinson books, this one wasn’t great enough to sell me on the rest of the series. I quite liked the prequel, but found my mind desensitized by redshirt (or red-city?) death. Perhaps I need to stick..
Would have been tolerable with Russians, terrorists, or human villains as the adversary, but the unstoppable, extra-terrestrial slime makes the story one that just doesn’t end quick enough… Wasted a credit for sure…it is rare that I quit a book but the endless cliches and slime would be more relevant for the French whisperer to..
Another author coined the phrase ‘Journey before Destination’. Lowell has put a lot of words into demonstrating journey without destination.
