Although the narrator had a southern accent, which should have added to the story, every character sounded the same. This sameness made it particularly hard to distinguish between the 2 main characters. I never connected enough with any of the characters to truly care what happened to them.
I started off enjoying this book as it promised an interesting story but halfway through, it turned into a pedophile’s fantasy. I found it disturbing that it seemed to portray the inappropriate sexual relationship between a little girl and grown man as a sort of “star-crossed” lovers while portraying the people fighting to prevent it..

Unfortunate.I like the writing style & the story was intriguing until an inappropriate relationship is romanticized. There is explicit sexual contact between the adult male & 13year old girl . However, the relationship is romanticized & sexualized throughout the book, beginning with her as a younger child. It was disappointing.

Annette Marie is an amazing author, and has only gotten better over time. However, the narration for this doesn’t do it justice. The narrator’s mediocre acting could be overlooked if it weren’t for how nasally her voice is. Seriously, it’s painful to listen to.
