I should have read more of the lower star ratings. I am unsure how this book is so highly rated. I really wanted to love it based on it being rated 4.4 star with thousands of ratings, but after struggling to get about half way through the story I just couldn’t proceed. I’m very disappointed..
I have no idea how this book as so many 5 star reviews. It condones pedophilia because it’s “love”. I feel DISGUSTING after reading this.Narrator was great.

For much of the story, it felt disjointed, hard to keep up with multiple characters from chapter to chapter. Finally, it came together, and I was glad I stuck it out. That is, until the last 12 minutes; it fell apart again. Overall not a bad read, just had a hard time with it.
If you now live a relatively comfortable life with shelter, water & food, do you really know how you would adapt and behave in this kind of world? This story contains all the good and bad of humanity. It feels like a resource-scarce future will definitely enable the bad, even when it may at first..

Well written. However, I do feel the author should have noted a trigger warning for this story. Although fictitious, there are components in the story that are very disturbing. As a survivor, I had to walk away for a bit before finally resuming.

Although the narrator had a southern accent, which should have added to the story, every character sounded the same. This sameness made it particularly hard to distinguish between the 2 main characters. I never connected enough with any of the characters to truly care what happened to them.
I started off enjoying this book as it promised an interesting story but halfway through, it turned into a pedophile’s fantasy. I found it disturbing that it seemed to portray the inappropriate sexual relationship between a little girl and grown man as a sort of “star-crossed” lovers while portraying the people fighting to prevent it..
