War and being in the armed forces can destroy a person and this book goes into some of that. This book also shows that these people that suffer from PTSD can come back from that brink and are still amazing people. This guy just needed some help… ie apocalypse to help him on his way..

I found this story compelling and realistic. The narrator has a perfect tone for the scenarios and does a nice job of portraying the characters. Strong character development throughout. Loads of excitement mixed with deep friendships (and adversaries). I strongly recommend this set of books and will be reading more from R.E. McDermott.
