It’s really different than Carl and crew. Very little humor and much slower. Well written, but not that interesting or enjoyable.

I assume this is a YA novel because most of the characters do the dumbest thing possible for practically genius intelligence people. That is a shame actually if writing for younger people means characters have to be dumb. I have to assume most of this is an allegory for politics and how dumb the writer..

Dead Mech Walking Surprisingly good. Sympathetic protagonist with very good character development, though the military elements are a bit hand-waved. Very good action scenes (clearly based on Battletech). Interesting world/game design that doesn’t spend too much time on the game elements. I’ve read the other adventures in the Black Ocean series, and in my opinion, this is the weakest yet. It seemed like the main protagonists self-inflicted many of the calamities, with one of them acting like a child and being stubborn. I expected more from the series, but I can’t complain about spending the one..

You can’t go wrong with JS Morin books. Especially with Mikael Naramore reading it with such great character depth. It’s like a movie in your head.
