Very in depth book about how AI works. Complications already encountered with AI. Explains why we should be concerned. Especially given how big of a footprint Zuckerberg and Palantir ( I named these people/company not the book. I am deeply concerned about where we are headed.
It is a challenge to write a book on a topic that could lead to the end of humanity. The authors risk being ridiculed and they know it. The have taken on the task nonetheless and make their case with conviction.
This is a difficult book to rate. It reminds me of the Black Mirror Episode “Plaything.” The explanation of LLMs and gradient dissent were nicely done and easy to understand as someone who is a layperson with A.I. The author outlined possible future scenarios for superintelligences. I certainly agree that there will be second order..
If half of what is in this book is correct, we are in trouble. Well written and well reasoned as far as I can tell.
It’s hard to get past the authors constant reference to evolution while completely discounting God in the formation of the human mind.
Listened to twice in a row. I wanted to better understand the vectors and weights process. Otherwise, all other explanations and examples painted clear enough mental images to ponder on. This should allow anyone to get enough of a grasp of the main concepts within, to think about and better understand the main issues that..
This book is a Great listen, It is Thought provoking. The future of AI is a bit scary.

Powerful, imaginative polemic warning of the dangers of artificial superintelligence. Does not require us to forgo practical use of LLMs, generative AI in the near term, just unrestrained pursuit of technology by self interested and dangerously optimistic tech developers. Highly recommended.

this one might be better read than listening to it. it’s an important part of the series story line.
