Full disclosure, I’ll listen to anything Phil Thron reads. I love that man’s voice. I did really like the story. The main character isn’t a sociopath and doesn’t immediately become one when he gains some power. The story is solid and I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

It was annoying watching the MC do the dumbest stuff and then talk about how he couldn’t believe how dumb that was. It was starting to ruin the immersion. The MC had been smart, detailed, and collected. But was just changed towards the end.
Got to chap 34 before I realized the last truly kind people in this story are the aunt and uncle. Even the priestesse the 3rd kindest person is manipulated by the Elder gods into serving them.
