You could feel the author getting more comfortable in the world in this book. Very violent, and parts seem cruel but since the characters, even those tortured, don’t seem to care we probably shouldn’t either.
How unusual for the main character, that is understandably humble in the beginning when his talent has not yet been revealed, to remain so when he becomes so much more. Travis is a gifted narrator that hiked many miles with me, unbeknownst to him of course….Having just completed book nine, I will now happily return..
I never write reviews, but I feel the need to encourage everyone on the fence about this one to Read It. This year Ive blown through Wheel of Time, Mistborn, Way of Kings, and a few other amazing series.. I was super invested in this world by the end of book 1 in a way..
The world is a bit one-dimensional, in that shonen anime style where the only thing that matters is growing more powerful. But it’s a blast of a ride and it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. The magic system is pretty interesting and diverse. I’ve already downloaded the second one!
this was such a fun book! would highly recommend to friends. the development of the story is exciting and well paced.
You spend the entire book waiting for the moment that the MC gets any sort of power to defend himself and instead, get to listen to hour after hour of him bowing to people who wronged him, or getting saved by someone else. As soon as that boy took his cultivation materials he should have..
So I will admit that I wasn’t keen on this series at the beginning. It very much resembles Jim Butcher’s stories and kinda felt like fan fiction. I stuck with it because I’m a big fan of the Harry Dresden universe and I have been through that series at least three times and was missing..
