The epistolary writing began to feel gimmicky mid-novel. Combining epistolary with a different narrative choice would have made it sag less in the middle and propel it forward.

I’d read many superlative reviews and was expecting more than what I got. Pros: excellent narration, overall solid enough plot, mostly held my interest and provided good company.
