Too bad about the narrator

The story was reasonably good, if one overlooks the clumsy misdirection of “Poppi’s” gender. But truly annoying was the adenoidal rendering of Helen’s maudlin soliloquies. Finally, the narrator, toward the end, couldn’t keep Helen’s adenoidal rendering straight and used it when the heroine was supposedly speaking. Very sloppy.
