First I was good with the premise of the story. The FMC had a bad breakup realizing her ex had a double life doing illegal stuff, so she’s paranoid about trusting someone enough to date them. She’s also obsessed with true crime. The combination leads to her constantly second guessing everything her new boyfriend says to her wondering if he’s who he says he is, as well as her questioning what really happened to her neighbors wife and if he possibly killed her. This is supposed to be a romance book, but most of the plot feels like the FMC’s annoying and invasive sleuthing attempts on her neighbor, as well as he like and yet distrust of her new boyfriends motives. It’s the entire book. There’s so much more of the FMC’s garbage than the actually couple developing their relationship, and she doesn’t seem to have a character arc at all. It’s the same thing the entire book. I’m at the very end and can’t wait for it to be over. Not sure if I’ll listen to the third because of this one.
