Returning from a summer with her father, Briar receives a message from her mother. “Away on my honeymoon, a driver will take you to our new house, and instead of the community college, you are now enrolled in the elite Saints U. Taken to the mansion she will now call home, she discovers she has a wing of her own as does her new stepbrother. Unable to handle anymore, she agrees to go to a party where she overindulges in alcohol and males, only to find out the next morning, she had the most incredible one-nighter of her life with her new stepbrother and 2 of his 3 best friends. And her new brother is not amused. He sets out to make her life miserable. What he can never understand is he’s just a “Mean Boy”, she’s already faced real monsters in her life. There’s nothing he can do to cause her pain because the worst has already happened.
A stepbrother, a jock, and best…twins… with puppies. The perfect ingredients for an RH even if they haven’t all come to their senses yet. This is an absorbing, fun, quick read or in my case, listen. I like Lily Wildhart’s writing style. it’s easy to fall into one of her stories. The storyline was entertaining and the characters were compelling, especially Briar. She was strong while still vulnerable and emotional. She was the Queen of Bad Decisions and they always came back to bite her. The boys were mostly unsuccessful bullies and I loved how a couple caved in almost immediately. It just made it all the more realistic to me. There were multiple twists thrown in, several unanswered questions, and a doozy of a cliffhanger leaving me eager for the next book.
Cecily Foster narrated the story and did a solid job portraying the cast of characters. I always prefer a dual narration but she was as successful as possible in voicing the females and males and making certain each had a distinctive voice.
