This book was really well written with some amazing character development. The tone, setting, and more reminded me of The Poppy War, and the modern fantasy world the author built made me think of the Jade books by Fonda Lee, though I liked this book more than either of those (though I want to reread the Jade book to see if I enjoy it more and continue the series). The world building was amazing and I’m shocked the author has only written this one standalone book in it, even after setting up an plotline in the last chapter with incredible potential. Maybe one day they’ll do it and I’ll be there if they do!
