The Correspondent was a very different reading experience from what I normally gravitate toward, and I think the audiobook format made all the difference for me. The multiple narrators made the letters feel intimate and alive, almost like eavesdropping on conversations rather than reading correspondence on a page.
The story is quiet, reflective, and deeply human. There isn’t a strong plot in the traditional sense, but over time I became invested in the relationships and emotional threads of Sybil’s life. It ended up being a calming, bittersweet listen that felt especially meaningful during a time when I needed something gentle and easy to follow.
I don’t really think I would’ve connected with this book nearly as much in physical format, and it’s probably not the type of novel I’d normally seek out, but I still found it beautiful and emotionally affecting.
