I kept seeing this meme going around that had religious connotations about joining the cult of DCC. I thought it was all an exaggeration because what could possibly be that great. I’m writing this having only read the first book so far so I can’t vouch for the whole series but the first book is truly worthy of become a cult cultivator.
The book read like an 80s inspired fever dream. I would bet a lot of money that I don’t have that the author took inspiration from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and many of early 80s and 90s video games among other things. This book is straight action and has no boring parts.
As for how the audiobook goes it was phenomenal. It is mind-blowing that it was only read by one man. He did such a great job create many separate voices including female voices. I usually hate when men voice women’s lines because a lot of them come off sound like 90s valley girls and are shudder inducing. Did not have this problem with DCC.
Great read for everyone regardless of if they’ve ever played a videogame.
