The story is intriguing but I found it hard to keep up as it went back and forth between present & past. Perhaps it would have been easier to follow in a book format versus audiobook.

There are some pretty abusive descriptions. It can be quite disturbing specially because all my favorite dark romances do not have the “hero” continue to sleep around and act abusive towards the “heroine” and other females throughout the book.

The narration was ok. It was more like a reading than heartfelt & emotional. The narrator did not immerse herself in the characters. It sounded a bit monotone to me.

The story had potential but the hopping around made it confusing. I did not understand her relationship with Jake. He seemed important at first but not so much towards the end. He was a peculiar character anyways.

They were part of a cult and were able to scape and find a wealthy lawyer to help them. They pretended to be a family to blend in. Annie and Colin would tell everyone they are brother & sister. The leader of the cult Taylor is pretty sick. There are some unexpected twists towards the end.

The story did not flow as well as I had expected it. And the conclusion did not really leave a happy feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was intended to be a HEA… You will need to read it to understand.
