First, I’m not sure why it’s considered a young adult novel, except for the fact that the main characters are in high school, the story, language and ideas behind it are pretty mature. The overall story was a fun listen – with full on horror with a sense of humor – it reminded me a little of Koontz’s Odd Thomas books. The main characters are well fleshed-out and likeable. I happen to live near the area where Apple is supposed to be located and there are lots of fun Easter eggs for the locals to chuckle at. I liked the ending, but it’s a bit open-ended which can frustrate some readers. The narrator was excellent, and I’ll be looking for more books read by him. He reminded me a bit of the narrator of A Christmas Story.
