Where do I begin? There’s just nothing happening in this book. No character development, very light on worldbuilding, very little reason to care or be invested in any of the events in the story. The concept and gimmick of the dungeon/video game stats stuff is tired and not done in a super original way sadly. For folks who have never seen an anime that does this, or read/watched Ready Player One I can see how this would feel very original. Sadly that’s not me. Incredibly anti-climactic by the end. Can’t stand the narrator’s poor Patrick Warburton impression that he does for 90% of the book. The humor is very hit or miss for me as well, more on the miss side. Unfortunately can’t recommend this book at all. Happy there are folks that love this series but I can’t fathom how it keeps anyone’s interest beyond this first book. I should be the direct target audience for this but it just didn’t connect unfortunately.
