Overall, I enjoyed listening to this audiobook; however, the outcome was rather predictable and too much of the story was spent on the situation upfront and not enough information was provided in the second half of the story. More specifically, the reader is given hints throughout the story about how evil the stepfather was, but the reader never finds out in any detail what he actually did to Lexi or why he was protecting her in the hole. In terms of overall character behaviours, several of the characters and character types behave inconsistently throughout the story. Despite these comments, I thought the idea behind this alternative society was fun to read about.
