I enjoyed book one. I felt it introduced us to our protagonists well & then delved into the post apocalypse setting without too much delay. However, by the time I reached book two I started noticing that the antagonists of this universe have one major repetitive modus operandi: Lots & lots of, how should I phrase it? Nonconsensual intercourse. I’m not new to this genre & understand that the average apocalyptic marauder is going indulge in it, but it was referenced so much that I started to be skeeved out after the constant exposure to it, especially when underage girls were involved. Then the topic of single individuals requiring a spouse for their survival started to grate on my nerves. I understand for the continuation of the human species it is needed in this scenario, but the author didn’t need to pound the point home so frequently, He made it seem that a single unattached individual was doomed to die an imminent death if they were not in a committed relationship by the end of the week. Then the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was the terminally ill wife who felt compelled before she died to force her husband to enter into an immediate relationship with another woman. Why the author made it seem imperative that this poor man had to consummate with another woman immediately after burying his wife, mystified me. It was at this point I’d had enough & decided then & there to pull chute on this series. It had just become too cringy for me to continue.
