The primary character is supposed to be driven through charisma. But she spends most of the book acting helpless and inept. The small bits of what should be the meat and potatoes in the form of intrigue and politics are given too little love. Things just work out, or happen to be perfect, far too often. There’s an argument to be made, that the author used a Deus ex machina ending to resolve the primary plot.
