Despite plenty of positive reviews, I found this book deeply unsatisfying. The concept is interesting (a massive solar storm fries Earth’s electronics, including those on the International Space Station) but it’s all downhill from there. The characters are shallow and unconvincing, almost cartoon-like. The dialogue is truly awful: simplistic, simpering or silly, bordering on juvenile. I love a good post-apocalypse story but found nothing in this story, the main players or the events depicted to draw me in and want to find out what happens next. The narrator makes a good job of the poor material he has to work with, but can’t save this sorry tale. Thank heavens for the very generous Audible.com returns policy, because this is definitely a book I’ll be sending back. Scratch Tom Abrahams from my potential author list.
