Really good start to a series. It’s an entertaining and engaging story with enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. The story pulled me in immediately and kept my attention until the end.

I enjoyed that the story started a bit different than most of the post society collapse books I have listened to recently. The SHTF scenario has already taken place, society has collapsed and they are in the midst of their long term survival of the fallout. They have already made it to their “bug out” location. While I like that the story started off differently, it also left me feeling like I missed out on something (the big event).

A realistic take on what life could be like in the aftermath of society’s collapse.
Even in a remote and somewhat protected/isolated area you would not be safe for long. People will do whatever they have to do to survive. That means sooner or later you are going to have to fight to survive. It won’t be pretty and it won’t be easy.

A prequel for the series would be a nice addition. I’m wondering if this is the direction the epilogue was taking? Setting up for the next book? Otherwise the epilogue should have been in one of the flashbacks Lauren had.

I’m am looking forward to the next book in the series to see where the author takes the story from here.

Kevin Pierce does a fantastic job with the narration as usual. He has the perfect voice for this type of story. He just has a way of pulling you into the story and bringing it to life through his narration.. Nice voice. Easy to listen to for hours at a time. Really good character voices. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Very enjoyable.
