This audiobook was just a delight to listen to. This is one of the best stories that SE Smith has ever written in my opinion. The premise of the story is that Earth has fallen to hostile aliens and much of the population devastated. Gracie, the heroine, was a preteen when the aliens came and has survived living in the old subway and drainage systems along with other survivors. She’s a computer wiz and for years has done a daily radio broadcast to encourage the resistance against the aliens and to give the survivors hope. When an opportunity to use a captured alien spacecraft to bring down the mothership arises, Gracie is the only one capable of doing the programming. She volunteers to go up and do the mission alone. During this space flight an accident happens and she’s thrown through a rift in space and crashes on an unknown moon. Listening daily to the frequencies, she tries to communicate with anyone to no avail. After years alone, one day someone answers and soon another group of aliens led by a startlingly handsome commander arrive to bring her to their ship. There she finds out that it’s been over 800 years since the war on Earth. That’s all I’m going to say or it will spoil the story! Narration was very good, but I wish there had been two voices.
