Book four focuses on Jim Powell. Jim is one of the survivors from prior books who made his way home after the terrorist attacks began, similar to Greg and Alice & Rebecca. Jim finds, just as Greg and Alice found, that being home is not what he imagined or suspected. There are several other sub plots within the novel and as usual the narrative switches back and forth between the different peoples. Randy & Tommy are sister & brother caught in the midst of long time bad feelings between families which finally came to a head. Baxter was an inexperienced civil servant in the role of disaster preparedness who suddenly found himself in demand without a clue how to proceed. Excellent writing, well developed characters, and Kevin Pierce bring it all together.
