What did you love best about The Borrowed World?
I liked the no-nonsense, non-apologetic manner of the main character.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I can’t recall her name (Randy?) but it was the woman who needed to quit smoking. I like how she didn’t back down from adversity (or the main character), and just trudged ahead, doing what needed to be done.
Any additional comments?
I didn’t get an outright feeling that this person was a diehard conservative or Republican, or any other label (and I’m not one). I just felt that the main character was someone who prepared for a rainy (or apocalyptic) day. Did I think he could have come across a bit kinder at times? Pfft. Of course. He was a jerk at times, but most of the time, he just said what most of us think inwardly, but are afraid to voice aloud, lest… well, don’t get me started. The wide-eyed whining about weapons did make me laugh, though, as the campers were written as a bit too naïve and one-sided to be believable. I was proud as punch of the mother/wife, and I wish like heck the author had a side-story on what precisely was in that red notebook. It ended rather suddenly, and with an obvious slant toward the next book. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
