The author obviously admires numerous stellar authors and excellent books. Apparently, she’s even been instructed by exceptional writers, including Claire Keegan. Too bad she chose to publish a novel that degrades the medium. I felt more dislike for her than for the intentionally unlikeable protagonist by the middle of the book. (Only got past the first couple “chapters” for a book club meeting.) Writing well is very difficult but that’s no excuse for adding more pulp to the world of contemporary fiction.
