I liked the idea behind Operation Bounce House, and the world itself was interesting. Unfortunately, the execution did not really work for me.
For about three quarters of the book, it felt like children with serious mental health problems were being thrown into violent and traumatic situations, where they are attacked and killed, but the characters keep joking about things like prizes, things from childhood, silver stars, or chikens. The problem is not that they use humor to survive terrible experiences — that could have worked. Instead, it often made everything feel strangely unserious, as if the horror and danger did not really matter.
The narration was also difficult for me to listen to at first, especially since English is not my native language. In some places it felt overly dramatic, although I did get used to it eventually.
Overall, I liked the concept and the setting, but the tone and execution made it hard for me to enjoy the book
