So far in this series the lead character Austin has had to be rescued 3 times. And yet he still feels the need to keep pushing and puts himself and his family in unnecessary danger because he’s petulant and impulsive and doesn’t think logically. I’m surprised he’s lived this long. He’s really easy not to like. And yet I think we’re supposed to like him as the story is written. Also some of the gun terminology in the story is off. Not just this book but the whole series I’ve heard to date. Specifically calling a revolvers cylinder where the bullets get loaded into the gun the barrel instead of the cylinder. Anyone that knows anything about revolvers knows the barrel is only the fixed steel piece that the bullet fired out of. The cylinder is the part that gets opened up to put shells in. But in this story the cylinder is being called the barrel. I know it’s a small detail and doesn’t matter in the scheme of the story but to me details matter. And authors should have knowledgeable people on staff to help ensure details are correct if the author is not knowledgeable themselves about something. Overall the story is somewhat engaging but also somewhat frustrating in the way that Austin who’s supposed to be the leader of the group is so impulsive. The female lead is much more level headed.
