I awaited this book. I checked dates, refreshed pages, verified pre-orders. I have a Desperado Club knife tattoo. I am a DCC fan, so it should come as absolutely no shock that I, along with a growing army of others, are going to give this book a glowing review.
Well, maybe.
The run through the latest level of Dungeon Crawler World was as wild as any I’ve seen, and the evolution of the show-running AI is truly terrifying. The scenes are described in visceral detail, and the way that Carl sees things playing out in those scenes had me laughing out loud in a crowded metro train that was otherwise filled with quiet professionals just trying to get to work.
That said, there was a markedly lower amount of character backstory and development in this episode. I might be in a minority here (or I might not, I don’t actually know), but I enjoyed learning about the history of the characters as we were pulled through the corporate exploitation of earth.
Overall: Amazing work on both Matt and Jeff. Jeff, keep being the bar-raiser over dead tree editions. Matt, I have no clue where you’re heading with this, but I am more than happy that I’m on for the ride.
