This biography feels very much like a college student essay. The author does not say they get details from declassified files, but instead goes mostly from interviews with the subject. The lack of detail and background makes the story disengaging. Saying the sniper “racked up kills” does not put us in the moment much, and the military circumstances of most engagements are left unexplored. In general, not a well done story. The one redeeming factor is the reader is very good, but it doesn’t save the book.
