“Spoiler alert, Katia,” Donut replied. “It’s always going to end with an explosion.”
This line best explains how this story unfolds and comes together. I absolutely love the relationship between Carl and Doughnut as they have entered another level within the Dungeon. I will admit that this level took me a minute to understand what was actually happening and what the main goal was. The picture of the train line helped me more than I realized. And the minor achievements and quests happening on this level took a wild turn.
I love that Carl is a lot more aware of his surroundings and how the game is being played. I appreciate that he sees all the characters and not just the crawlers. I know that he is struggling with the concept that he can’t save them all. He is fully aware the game is cruel and playing deadly games for the sake of “entertainment”, but he isn’t willing to bend for the show and their rules. He is playing a much bigger game and I’m excited to see how he burns everything down.
Jeff Hays and the Critical Thinker have done such an amazing job narrating this world and bringing this story to life. I love listening to this audiobook. It is 10x better than just reading the book. They various characters’ voices and sound effects make this audiobook a must listen. It’s so easy to get lost in this world and with these characters. I adore them and am rooting for them as they fight through each level.
